Father Beheads Daughter, Police Search for Suspect

BAARDHEERE, Somalia – A Somali man beheaded his daughter on Saturday in Baardheere, Gedo region, prompting local authorities to launch a search for the suspect who remains at large.

The brutal killing took place around midday on the outskirts of Baardheere, near the Iftin camp for internally displaced people, according to officials and residents.

The reason for the beheading remains unclear, with authorities stating that an investigation is currently in progress.

Baardheere District Commissioner Adam Mohamed Ahmed Dhagacade confirmed the incident, confirming that security forces are pursuing the father, who fled following the murder.

“A father indeed beheaded his daughter today,” Dhagacade stated. “We received reports that he had taken her in a vehicle, claiming he was transporting her to Mogadishu. After reaching the town’s outskirts, he killed her. We cannot yet establish the motive, but an investigation is continuing.”

The district commissioner noted that the incident has alarmed residents of Baardheere and the surrounding areas, vowing that the suspect would face justice once apprehended.

Family-related violent crimes have increasingly concerned Somalia in recent years. Just two days prior, authorities reported that a man in Galdogob had allegedly killed his mother and aunt, highlighting worries about a surge in such incidents nationwide.
