Fear Grips Area Along Somalia-Kenya Border as Diplomatic Tensions Rise

Fear of possible conflict has gripped the areas along Somalia’s border with Kenya as diplomatic tensions increase.

Lately, a buildup of military from both nations has been noted in these areas thus forcing residents to conclude that conflict is on the horizon.

Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) deployed troops to Beled-Hawo, a border town.

Meanwhile, forces from Jubbaland, a semiautonomous region in Somalia that enjoys strong ties with Kenya, are stationed in Mandera Town.

The Senator of Mandera County, Mohamed Maalim Mahamud, urged authorities to protect innocent residents from effects of the weak diplomatic relations between Somalia and Kenya.

Abdirashid Janan, the Minister of Interior in the Jubbaland administration, has hundreds of his troops in Mandera.
