Federal Delegation Engages SSC-Khatumo on State Formation Process

Las Anod, Somalia – A high-level federal government delegation led by the Second Deputy Speaker of the Upper House, Abdullahi Ali Hirsi Timacade, arrived in SSC-Khatumo and held critical talks with the region’s leadership to advance the state formation process and promote cooperation between federal and local administrations.

Accompanied by several cabinet ministers, Timacade and his delegation were received by SSC-Khatumo officials in Las Anod, where discussions centered on federalism, governance, and inclusive political dialogue.

The visit marks a significant step in fostering coordination between the Federal Government of Somalia and emerging federal member entities, including SSC-Khatumo, which has been seeking formal recognition as a state within the federal framework.

Speaking during the meeting, Timacade emphasized the importance of unity, stability, and peaceful dialogue in strengthening the federal structure of Somalia.

“Our presence here is a testament to the federal government’s commitment to inclusive governance and addressing the aspirations of all Somali communities,” he stated.

Leaders from SSC-Khatumo welcomed the delegation’s arrival and reaffirmed their commitment to constructive engagement with the federal government. They highlighted the need for equitable development, security, and representation in national institutions.

The talks also addressed ongoing efforts to solidify peace in the region, following recent tensions and calls for self-governance by local authorities. Both sides agreed on the necessity of cooperation to ensure security, economic growth, and institutional development.

This visit comes at a time when the federal government is prioritizing reconciliation, inclusive politics, and finalizing the federalization process as part of its Vision 2024 roadmap.

The delegation is expected to continue consultations with community leaders, civil society groups, and traditional elders before returning to Mogadishu.
