Mogadishu, Somalia – Members of both Houses of Somalia’s Federal Parliament met for the sixth joint sitting of the 7th session at the Parliament Headquarters in Mogadishu. The session was led by the Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, alongside the deputy speakers of both Houses.
The primary focus of the session was the third reading and vote on the Final Accounts of the 2024 national budget, previously submitted by the Ministry of Finance.
Initially, MP Abdi Ibrahim Warsame (Qowdhan), Chair of the Budget, Finance, Planning, International Cooperation and Oversight Committee of the House of the People, delivered the committee’s report on the third reading of the 2024 Final Accounts to the joint Houses, following joint reviews by the budget committees of both Houses in recent weeks.
After discussions, lawmakers from both Chambers cast their votes on the Final Accounts of the 2024 fiscal year. During the event, 167 Members of Parliament voted in favor, two against, and one abstained, approving the Final Accounts.
Speaker Madobe who concluded the session, highlighted the important national priorities ahead in the 7th session. He reaffirmed that both Houses of Parliament will focus on reviewing and finalizing the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia in the weeks to come.
