The Speakers of both chambers of the federal parliament held discussions on May 14 on the security of the venue for Sunday’s presidential elections.
Somalia holds the long-awaited presidential elections on May 15.
The polls will take place at a tent at the Afisyoni Air Force Hangar at the Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu.
Speaker Sheikh Aden Madobe of the House of the People (Lower House) joined his colleague from the Senate (Upper House), Speaker Abdi Hashi in Saturday’s discussions.
The two parliamentary leaders held discussions with senior commanders from the Somali Police Force (SPF).
Senior officials from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) were at the discussions too.
ATMIS has already imposed a complete lockdown at the venue of the elections.
The Somali government has declared a curfew in Mogadishu from 9pm on Saturday to 6am on Monday, May 16.
