FEIT Warns Regional States against Failure to Implement 30% Women Quota

The Federal Elections Implementation Team (FEIT) has warned regional states against failure to implement the 30 percent women representation.

For years, Somalia has grappled with discussions on implementation of women quota.

In the past, its leaders and stakeholders have not been sold out on implementing this rule, which seeks to see an increase in women representation.

This year, the situation seems to be changing.

Somalia made huge strides in the recent elections for Upper House seats, which saw a significant number of women elected senators.

On November 18, FEIT stated that the number must remain intact in the upcoming Lower House polls.

Elections for the House of the People seats kick off next week across the country.

FEIT urges delegates to respect the mandatory 30 percent women quota.

A statement by the electoral body states that it would not compromise on this matter.
