FESOJ Asks Journalists to Uphold Balanced Reporting of Current Situation in Somalia

Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) has asked journalists to “uphold balanced reporting” of the current situation in the country.

FESOJ made this request on February 8 as news of the expiry of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s term in office circulated widely.

On Monday, FESOJ asked journalists and media owners to avoid the kind of reporting that only promotes incitement and hate speech.

Lately, the number of politicians and commentators making potentially inciting speeches has increased substantially.

Some politicians have said that the decision by Farmaajo to remain in office while his term has expired could plunge the country into a period of instability and chaos.
