The Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) has completed a month-long monitoring of the media’s coverage of COVID-19 in the country.
Consequently, FESOJ has promised to publish a detailed report on how the country’s media covered news on the novel Coronavirus.
More than 12 FESOJ-trained Somali journalists took part in the exercise.
They were all based in various parts of the country with clearly defined mandate that included monitoring news and programs on Coronavirus.
Specifically, the journalists were to monitor the performance of 14 major media houses in the Horn of Africa nation.
Somalia reported its first COVID-19 case in mid-March this year.
Since then, media outlets and journalists have provided the country with unprecedented levels of coverage on COVID-19.
Somalis can now look forward to daily briefings from the Ministry of Health and the latest lockdown and curfew measures imposed by the government from various media outlets.
