FESOJ Offers Financial Support to Slain Journalist

Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) has expressed its deep sadness at the shameless murder of Abdiweli Ali Hassan. FESOJ has demanded immediate investigations into the killing of the young Somali journalist in Afgoye.

FESOJ offered financial support to the family of the slain journalist. It offered €1,500 to Hassan’s widow and his two children. The funds will go towards meeting the medical costs and burial expenses.

The group’s President Abaadir Abdulakdir Elmi was among those who went to see the journalist’s kin. The Secretary General Mohammed Ibrahim Moalimuu also joined them to offer support to the family of the dead scribe.

President Elmi said, “Safety of journalists is our priority. We demand the protection of journalists by the relevant authorities. The outrageous and barbaric killing of journalists must stop immediately.”

President Elmi also thanked the support that FESOJ received from Free Press Unlimited. Free Press Unlimited runs Reporters Respond Emergency Fund, which it used as the vehicle for releasing the funds that FESOJ handed over to Hassan’s loved ones.
