The Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) has welcomed the signing of the Media Law by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
FESOJ called the Media Law a “positive step” for the country.
According to the federation, the country is now moving in the right direction. However, it asked stakeholders in the media industry to keep a watchful eye on events.
FESOJ cited the “punitive provisions” contained in the Media Law as a cause for concern.
It also mentioned the work needed to amend some of the provisions that could hurt the media industry in the country.
The organization asked journalists, media owners, and outlets in Somalia to fight provisions that could “impede their independence.”
