The Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU) has expressed solidarity with FAVORI workers who are on strike over the company’s wanton labor rights abuses.
FAVORI workers have downed their tools at the Aden Adde International Airport over claims that their employer is flagrantly abusing their basic rights as laborers.
The striking 134 workers accuse FAVORI LLC of refusal to negotiate fair and equal pay with them. They also blame the company’s management for promoting discrimination.
Furthermore, the workers say that the firm has failed to make their workplace safe and healthy for all workers.
Additionally, the workers blame the employer for disregarding all existing agreements by amending their employment contracts unilaterally.
Omar Faruk Osman, the Secretary General of FESTU, has issued a statement indicating that the workers’ union supports the decision by the airport workers to go on a strike.
Osman highlighted the fact that workers have constantly filed complaints against FAVORI for the last eight years without the government or the labor ministry taking any action.
FESTU’s Secretary General said the organization is aware of numerous unsuccessful attempts by the workers to have their issues with FAVORI resolved amicably.
