The Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU) claims that workers in the country endure a lack of decent working conditions.
According to FESTU, inflation has pushed many Somalis to take any job that is available without giving much attention to their working conditions.
FESTU issued a statement on this issue on October 7 while leading the rest of the country in celebrating the World Day for Decent Work.
“Somali workers in the country grapple with unsafe working conditions, inadequate wages, and absence of sufficient social protection measures,” FESTU said in its statement.
Consequently, the organization called for a pay rise for all workers in the East African nation.
It also called for collaboration between Somalia and other nations to address the challenges facing the country’s “working poor.”
