The Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU) has urged the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs to discuss the FAVORI issues with the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia.
FESTU issued a statement urging Duran Farah, the labor minister, to discuss issues related to FAVORI with Ambassador Mehmet Yilmaz, who represents Turkey in Somalia.
The organization made this request on January 19 when Farah and Ambassador Yilmaz held a meeting in Mogadishu to discuss several issues, including bilateral cooperation.
On the same day, FESTU requested the two leaders to talk about FAVORI.
Since last year, workers at the Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu have gone on strike several times over FAVORI’s management.
The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) appointed FAVORI to manage the international airport in the country’s capital.
FAVORI hired Somali workers to ensure that the facility operates smoothly.
However, the Somali workers have complained of harassment, intimidation, and abuse of their rights by top FAVORI management.
Consequently, FESTU urged the country’s labor minister to discuss this issue with Ambassador Yilmaz to find long-lasting solutions to the problems affecting Somali workers.
