FGS Allocates $0.5m to Help Victims of Lower Shabelle Floods

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has allocated $500,000 to help the victims of the recent flooding in Lower Shabelle.

Flooding in the region has affected thousands of people.

Afgoye town, which is one of the worst hit places in the region, has witnessed mass displacement of people from their homes.

Food shortage has become rampant in the aftermath of the floods. Local residents are also unable to access clean water for drinking.

The ongoing rains caused River Shabelle’s banks to burst open thus leading to the destructive floods.

Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire recently asked the Ministry of Finance to release the funds to help mitigate the effects of what is quickly turning into a humanitarian crisis.

Lower Shabelle’s Governor Ibrahim Adan Ali Najah promised that his administration is working on a plan to make sure the affected residents receive the help.

Yesterday, President Mohamed Farmaajo of Somalia asked Somalis in the country to unite to help their fellow citizens affected by the floods around the country.
