FGS Closing Down on Al-Shabaab Financiers, says Deputy Prime Minister

Mahdi M. Gulaid, Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister, has assured the country that the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) is closing down on Al-Shabaab financiers.

Deputy Prime Minister Gulaid was speaking during a consultative workshop the government held on anti-money laundering and combating financing of terrorism (AML/CFT).

While addressing participants at the conference, Gulaid said that most of the funds that terrorists receive for their operations are from foreign sources.

He made his remarks just after Ambassador Gamal M. Hassan, the country’s Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, asked all institutions to bank locally.

Furthermore, Ambassador Gamal urged authorities to monitor the billions of US$ that find their way into the country each year.
