The Somali Federal Government, through a statement by the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, has criticized the decision by Jubbaland’s President Ahmed Madobe to form an independent regional elections committee.
The federal government labeled the committee as “illegitimate,” expressing concern that this move could lead to political instability, security risks, and divisions among key stakeholders in Jubbaland.
This criticism reflects ongoing tensions between federal and regional authorities over election management, which has previously been a contentious issue affecting governance and unity across Somalia.
Jubbaland’s President Ahmed Islam Madobe announced the formation of the independent regional elections committee a few hours ago before the federal government responded by labeling it an illegal body.
