FGS Imposes Mogadishu’s Dusk-to-Dawn Curfew Over COVID-19 Fears

The Federal Government of Somalia has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Mogadishu to curb the further spread of COVID-19.

Mogadishu remains the busiest city in the Horn of Africa nation. It also hosts all arms of President Mohamed Farmaajo’s administration.

The country’s Police Commissioner, Gen. Abdi Hassan Mohamed, announced that the curfew comes into effect from April 15, 2020.

As it sets in, residents in the capital city will have to remain indoors every day between 8pm and 5am.

Gen. Mohamed said, “Police officers are responsible for implementing the order and ensuring that everybody adheres to it.”

The new directive sets in only three days after the Mayor of Mogadishu, Omar Filish, urged residents to remain indoors to prevent COVID-19 from spreading further.

In his Thursday address, Mayor Filish claimed that he knew several people who have died from the novel Coronavirus.
