Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Dahabo Suusow, extended a warm official welcome to FIFA Council Member Waberi Souleiman Haddan, President of the Djibouti Football Federation, during his high-profile visit to Mogadishu this week.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Youth and Sports headquarters, focused on enhancing bilateral football relations and exploring new avenues for sporting collaboration between Somalia and Djibouti. “This visit represents a pivotal moment for football development in our region,” Suusow remarked during the reception.
Haddan’s delegation discussed potential partnerships in coaching exchanges, youth development programs, and infrastructure support. The FIFA official emphasized “the growing potential of East African football” and reaffirmed FIFA’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s sporting renaissance.
Sports analysts suggest this engagement could lead to increased international friendlies, joint training camps, and technical knowledge-sharing – crucial steps toward raising the competitive standards of both nations. The visit concluded with plans to establish a permanent working group to implement the discussed initiatives.
This diplomatic sports mission comes as Somalia continues to reclaim its position in international football, recently marking progress with the reopening of stadiums and the successful hosting of regional tournaments.
