An unprecedented fight between government forces left two soldiers dead as the clash intensified in Dayniile Estate, Mogadishu.
The clashes, which took place on Tuesday, involved different groups of police officers and members of the Somali National Army (SNA).
According to sources, the two groups were fighting over land in the surrounding slums.
Gunshots rent the air for a large part of Tuesday, as both sides fired indiscriminately at each. Witnesses said the officers were all in their official attire.
Bodies of the dead soldiers remained on the streets and nearby thickets as the two groups ceased the skirmishes temporarily.
Reports indicate that several soldiers and police officers were injured and are now in hospital receiving treatment.
