Fighting Breaks Out between SNA Troops and NISA Officials in Central Somalia

Elite National Intelligence Security Agencies (NISA) officers fought with Somali National Army (SNA) troops in Dhusamareb on Wednesday.

The latest incident offers yet more evidence of the fractured relations between various government forces in Somalia.

According to eyewitnesses, officers from the two sides began shooting at each other indiscriminately, though the reasons for the fighting remain unclear.

Local officials confirmed that seven people from the two sides were injured and are currently in hospital receiving treatment.

Dhusamareb, which is Galmudug State’s administrative capital, has been the scene of countless clashes between government troops and regional militia for months.

An investigation by local media shows that fighting broke out when NISA officials and SNA troops disagreed over the staffing of a security checkpoint in the area.
