Finland has announced that new funding to Somalia will be contingent on progress in readmission cooperation, as per an official statement.
This decision follows Finnish Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen’s visit to Somalia on January 21, 2025, during which she held discussions with key Somali officials, including Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
Despite these conditions, Finland reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining an active dialogue with Somali authorities to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
This approach reflects Finland’s intent to balance accountability in migration policies with continued engagement and partnership with Somalia.
