Las Anod, Somalia – Abdiqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali, widely known as Firdhiye, and Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril were formally sworn in as President and Vice President of the Northeastern State of Somalia, officially beginning their mandate as entrusted by the regional House of Representatives.

The swearing-in ceremony marked a historic moment for the state, confirming the legislature’s endorsement of the two leaders after a closely followed political process. Members of the House of Representatives administered the oath, thereby certifying their leadership in line with the state’s constitutional provisions.

Firdhiye, who was elected president following deliberations in the assembly, pledged to prioritize unity, development, and security in the region. His deputy, Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril, emphasized the importance of strengthening institutions and fostering cooperation with both federal authorities and local communities.

Somalia’s top leadership welcomed the development, with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre both extending their congratulations to the newly elected leaders. They reaffirmed the federal government’s readiness to work with the Northeastern State in advancing peace, stability, and development.

The inauguration underscores a new chapter in the Northeastern State’s governance, with both leaders expected to navigate pressing challenges such as security threats, economic development, and reconciliation among diverse communities.
