First Plane Exporting Miraa to Somalia Departs Kenya

The first plane carrying miraa from Kenya departed the country for Somalia.

Miraa trade between Kenya and Somalia resumed after the plane departed Nairobi on Sunday, July 24.

Peter Munya, the Kenyan Minister of Agriculture, confirmed the news.

He stated that the miraa cargo flight took off from the Kenyan airspace for Mogadishu on Sunday morning.

He reiterated the Kenyan government’s commitment to supporting miraa farmers and traders to access local and international markets.

This was the first flight out of Kenya since President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud agreed to resume trade between the two neighboring nations in East Africa.
