Flights into and out of Mogadishu Airport Cancelled or Diverted

Flights into and out of the Aden Adde International Airport (AAIA) in Mogadishu were either cancelled or diverted following clashes between government troops and opposition guards.

The clashes started on Thursday night.

There was a brief respite before the clashes picked up on Friday morning again.

Government troops were deployed in the streets of Mogadishu to ensure that the major rally called by opposition parties never took off.

The rally was to take place on Friday.

AAIA management was forced to either cancel or divert the flights thereby inconveniencing travelers.

For the most part of Friday morning, downtown Mogadishu was turned into a battlefield as government troops sent opposition politicians and supporters scampering to safety.
