A meeting between Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States in Mogadishu has set a list of requirements to be met for any aspirant for a parliamentary seat.
The meeting took place at Villa Somalia on Thursday.
During the meeting, the leaders agreed that all parliamentary aspirants must be Somalis aged at least 25 years old.
Furthermore, they agreed that all aspirants must be of sound mind and possess at least a high school diploma.
Anyone who wants to vie for a parliamentary seat must be a person whose citizenship status has not been suspended by any court in the country in the last five years.
Candidates who belong or have any links with terrorist groups would not be cleared to vie.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) would also check each candidate’s criminal record. Those with a criminal past would not be permitted to seek elective post.
