Foreign Affairs Minister Announces FGS Agreement with FMS on Contentious Issues

Mohamed Abdirizak, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that an agreement had been reached between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) on the contentious issues that led to the collapse of the recent conference in Dhusamareb.

Abdirizak made this announcement during an interview with TRT World.

According to the foreign affairs minister, FGS and FMS leaders have reached an agreement that could be announced anytime within the next 48 hours.

However, he never provided further details on the deal.

The opposition presidential candidates have also not issued any comment on the deal. Instead, they continue making plans for the huge anti-government protests that are planned for Friday, February 19 in Mogadishu.

Furthermore, opposition politicians continue accusing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of stalling and frustrating Somalia’s efforts towards reconciliation.

Abdirizak’s comments come hot on the heels of the recent announcement that the technical committee appointed to look into the electoral impasse had discovered the perfect solutions.

Following their announcement, Farmaajo called for a meeting between representatives from the federal government and regional states in Mogadishu. The meeting, dubbed the Leadership Consultative Summit, is to take place from February 18-19.
