Foreign Affairs Minister Discusses Somalia Transition Plan with Ambassador Madeira

Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Ambassador Francisco Madeira in Mogadishu on November 7.

During the meeting, Mohamud discussed the Somalia Transition Plan (STP) Ambassador Madeira.

Ambassador Madeira is the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia.

Their discussions mostly focused on security within Somalia.

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has been in charge of securing the country since January 19, 2007.

Further, part of AMISOM’s mandate included training local Somalis to take up security-related functions.

Mohamud and Ambassador Madeira agreed that Somalia’s military units must start readying themselves to take up all security-related functions.

At the most, AMISOM only has around one more year to operate in Somalia.
