ADDIS ABABA — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, has held a series of critical diplomatic meetings on the sidelines of the African Union (AU) summit in Addis Ababa.
The Minister’s agenda focused on the transition to the new security mission, regional stability, and strengthening bilateral ties with key partners.
AU Peace and Security Council
On Wednesday, Minister Abdisalam participated in a ministerial gathering of the AU Peace and Security Council (AU PSC). The discussion centered on the operationalization of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
During the meeting, the Minister expressed appreciation to the AU leadership and troop-contributing countries for their continued support. He also highlighted the recent “one-person, one-vote” elections in Mogadishu as a historic milestone in Somalia’s political development.
The Minister welcomed Somalia’s recent election to membership of the AU PSC, noting that it reflects growing confidence in the country’s role in promoting peace and stability at both regional and continental levels.
Diplomatic Engagements
In separate bilateral talks, Minister Abdisalam met with Guang Cong, the United Nations Envoy for the Horn of Africa.
The talks emphasized Somalia’s steadfast dedication to its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as Somali-driven approaches to conflict resolution. The Minister congratulated Mr. Cong on his appointment and affirmed Mogadishu’s willingness to collaborate on regional peace initiatives.
Additionally, the Minister held discussions with Kenya‘s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Musalia Mudavadi.
The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral ties and coordinate on mutual priorities, including:

Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to good neighborly relations and maintaining ongoing dialogue on shared strategic objectives.
