Somali Minister Signs Cooperation Pact with Moroccan Counterpart

Rabat, Morocco – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, met on Friday in Rabat with Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco. They reaffirmed both countries’ dedication to bolstering fraternal bilateral relations via a broad cooperation agreement.

In the meeting, the two ministers signed a cooperation roadmap for 2026–2028. This roadmap seeks to broaden partnerships in essential sectors like agriculture, water and irrigation, maritime fishing, tourism, renewable energy, education and vocational training, higher education, health, security, economic investment, climate change, sport, and culture.

The pact raises the annual scholarship allocation for Somali students to 120. These scholarships encompass university studies, technical education, and vocational training.

The ministers also signed a visa exemption agreement for diplomatic passport holders, as part of efforts designed to streamline diplomatic exchanges between Rabat and Mogadishu.

Both parties highlighted the value of coordination and political consultations in international and regional bodies. They concurred that this teamwork aligns views on mutual issues while honoring principles of peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

The ministers restated their unwavering backing for the independence and sovereignty of their nations, applauding the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2797.

The discussions reflected a “South–South” partnership between the two African states, marking fresh energy in Somali–Moroccan relations and a common commitment to forging a robust, varied, and visionary cooperation structure.
