Foreign Minister to Address UNSC on Somalia’s Elections Preparedness

Mohamed Abdirizak, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, is scheduled to address the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the progress of his country’s preparations for elections.

Somalia is scheduled to hold parliamentary elections in January 2021 followed by presidential polls in February 2021.

Abdirizak announced that he would be meeting with Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary General, first before addressing the 15-member UNSC.

He announced that his meeting with the UNSC would focus on providing the 15 members with latest updates on the progress of the elections’ preparedness.

Abdirizak is set to depart the country to the United States.

Apart from addressing the UNSC, the minister also mentioned that he would be using the opportunity to strengthen diplomatic relations between his country and the United States.
