Former Al-Shabaab Leader in Somalia’s New 77-Member Cabinet

A former leader of the Al-Shabaab militant group is part of the newly named 77-member cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).

Mukhtar Robow Ali Abu Mansoor, a former deputy leader of the militant group, is now Somalia’s Minister of Religious Affairs.

Another notable name is Salah Ahmed Jama, who is now the Deputy Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre named his cabinet on August 2.

It contains 25 cabinet ministers. Apart from those, Prime Minister Barre also named 25 deputy ministers and 26 state ministers.

The country now has a Minister of Interior Affairs in Ahmed Molaim Fiqi.

Dr. Mohamed Sheikh Ali Dodishe takes over as the Minister of Security.

The new Minister of Finance will be Dr. Elmi Mohamud Nur while Abshir Omar Huruuse will serve as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Ali Haji Adan is the new Minister of Health as Daoud Aweys takes the mantle at the Ministry of Information.

The Prime Minister has scrapped the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
