Former Electoral Delegate Killed by Suspected Al-Shabaab Militants in Mogadishu

A prominent tribal leader, who is also a former electoral delegate, has been shot and killed by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in Mogadishu.

The incident, which took place on Thursday, followed the killing of a police officer in a car bomb explosion that occurred near the Presidential Palace.

According to an eyewitness, two gun-wielding men accosted the elder, who has been identified as Hussein Mohamed, at Suuq Ba’ad Village.

The men shot him dead on the spot.

Mohamed had taken part in selecting the Members of Parliament currently serving in the country’s legislature.

Thus far, nobody has claimed responsibility for the death of the tribal leader.

Nevertheless, Al-Shabaab has a history of targeting elders who elected the current lawmakers in Mogadishu and other parts of the country.
