Former FGS Education Minister Commended for Launching Go Back to School Initiative

A former Minister of Social Affairs in the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has been commended for launching several initiatives during her years in public office.

Dr. Maryam Qasim, who wore several hats while serving under the government, received praise from ex-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamed.

The former President of Somalia praised Dr. Qasim, who once served as the Minister of Education and Social Services, for launching the highly successful “Go Back to School Initiative.”

Dr. Qasim is a former Minister of Health under FGS too.

However, ex-President Mohamud focused on her tenure as education minister for praise while addressing participants at the Puntland Development and Research Center (PDRC) talks.

The talks were held in Garowe on January 5, 2021.

Apart from the “Go Back to School Initiative,” Mohamud also mentioned other successes that Dr. Qasim enjoyed as education minister.

Specifically, he mentioned the fact that the first public school opened in Puntland during her tenure.

He also cited the revitalization of the Somali National University, which also took place during her stint as the education and social services minister, as commendable acts.
