Former Mogadishu Deputy Commissioner Jailed for 5 Years

A former Mogadishu Deputy Commissioner has been jailed for five years.

Abukar Salad Mohamud was found guilty of collaborating with Al-Shabaab militants.

Consequently, the court determined that he should spend the next five years of his life behind bars.

Mohamud is a former Deputy Commissioner in charge of social affairs for the Hodan and Hamarweyne districts of Mogadishu.

His sentencing took place on Thursday.

He had been accused of transporting injured and sick Al-Shabaab members abroad for treatment.

Mohamud served as a deputy commissioner from 2014-2019.
