A former chief of the Somali armed forces says that the country is ready to take over all security responsibilities from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
In an interview with the Voice of America (VOA) Somali, General Dahir Aden Elmi said that the military is prepared to secure the country against all internal and external threats.
Gen. Elmi, who was once the Somali National Army (SNA) chief, gave a seal of approval to the capabilities of the military.
Furthermore, he called on all Somalis in the country to have faith in themselves instead of relying on foreign forces to secure and stabilize Somalia.
