Former Somali Minister Urges Government to Solve Issues with Regional Leaders

A former minister of Somalia has urged the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to solve its issues with regional state leaders.

Mohamed Mukhtar Ibrahim, a former Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, made this call to FGS on February 19.

He was addressing the media on the current situation in Somalia.

The East African nation is in the midst of an electoral crisis.

Parliament’s term expired in December 2020 while that of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo ended on February 8, 2021.

Yet, the country has not held parliamentary or presidential elections.

Mukhtar said that it is imperative for the government to have dialogue with regional state leaders to resolve all electoral issues immediately.

He said that the stability of the entire nation depends on a quick resolution of the crisis and ensuring that the country holds elections soon.
