A former President of Somalia attended the funeral of General Paul Lokech of Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) on August 28.
Ex-President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed attended the funeral of Gen. Lokech at his Acholi home.
Gen. Lokech is highly respected in Somalia, especially after leading the fight against Al-Shabaab in Mogadishu.
The Ugandan general had been part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) brigade that was in Somalia to enhance security.
He was laid to rest on Friday.
Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was among the dignitaries who attended the late Gen. Lokech’s funeral.
Sheikh Ahmed had been the President of Somalia back then when Gen. Lokech led UPDF soldiers into Mogadishu to run Al-Shabaab militants out of the city.
Ex-President Ahmed has called Gen. Lokech the “Lion of Mogadishu.”
