Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the former President of Somalia, has urged the country’s leadership to focus on drafting a stable foreign policy first.
Ex-President Sheikh said that the East African nation needs “sound foreign policy.”
Without that, Sheikh said Somalia would struggle to compete in the international arena or to attract foreign investments.
Sheikh spoke on Monday while addressing a forum in Mogadishu.
During his address, Sheikh urged the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to focus on drafting a foreign policy that is not only vibrant, but also open and tolerant.
His address comes at a time when the country’s diplomatic relations with Kenya seems to have hit a snag.
Sheikh reminded Somalis that the country is yet to attain self-sufficiency. Consequently, it needs assistance from all its international partners.
