Former Somalia Prime Minister Announces Candidacy for Upcoming Presidential Polls

Hassan Ali Khaire, the immediate former Prime Minister of Somalia, has announced that he will vie in the upcoming presidential elections.

Khaire made the stunning announcement on Saturday on his official Twitter handle.

His announcement comes 50 days after the House of Representatives voted to pass a motion of no confidence against him thus removing him from office.

Khaire was voted out of office in late July by a vote of 170 to 8.

He was appointed the Prime Minister in February 2017 after leaving his former roles as an aid worker and an oil executive.

While making the announcement, Khaire stated that he “understands the opportunities and challenges associated with leadership.”

He also assured the people of Somalia that he understands the level of performance required from top leadership to drive the country forward.
