Somalia’s opposition alliance, the Forum for National Parties (FNP), has demanded investigations into the alleged connection between National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and Al-Shabaab.
FNP demanded the unveiling of an independent inquiry to probe reports published a few weeks ago on Kenyan media alluding to the existence of links between NISA and Al-Shabaab. The alliance made its opinion on this matter known in a letter addressed to the government.
The opposition alliance wrote a letter to President Mohamed Farmaajo thus heralding the latest twist into what could be interesting times for the Horn of Africa nation. Somalia is preparing for elections later in the year.
FNP copied the same letter to other top leaders of the nation. Among them were Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, the Speaker of Senate, the Speaker of the Lower House, and the Attorney General.
In the letter, FNP expressed serious “misgivings” about the allegations of cooperation between the two entities. Kenya’s National Intelligence Service (NIS), which is the equivalent of NISA, was the first organization to unearth the possible links.
