On Wednesday, the regional court sitting in Maordi Jeh sentenced four men who had been accused of smuggling Khat into the country.
The four accused persons pled guilty to the charge and were each sentenced to an imprisonment of 3-and-a-half years.
Further, the court fined them 3 million Somaliland Shillings.
Abdisalan Hassan Ahmed, the judge presiding over the case, released a fifth person who pleaded not guilty after determining that he had no case to answer.
Additionally, the government impounded the vehicles used in transporting the stimulant, which is banned in the Horn of Africa nation.
The government, through the Attorney General, also charged the five of violating directives issued by the COVID-19 Committee, which had banned all travels into and out of the country.
