Four military officers from Somalia military surrendered to authorities in Somaliland after defecting.
On April 5, Somaliland claimed that it had received the four Somali National Army (SNA) officers.
General Abdirizak Afgadud, the Somaliland military commander, announced that the officers had been trained in the United States and Turkey.
Gen. Afgadud said that the defectors have not only surrendered but also asked for forgiveness.
The commander said that the defection is a “huge blow” to Somalia.
Somaliland and Somalia do not see eye-to-eye.
Gen. Afgadud identified the defectors as Mohamed Hassan Hashi, Mohamud Ahmed Ali, Jabir Ismail Osman, and Yusuf Mohamed Jama.
