A military commander, speaking for the Somali National Army (SNA), has said the government will step up its war on Al-Shabaab around the country.
Mohamed Ali Barise, SNA’s Deputy Force Commander, said the forces would continue participating in operations designed to eradicate the presence of Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
He said this while speaking to a group of Somali soldiers who had recently received training from their Turkish counterparts.
Barise said, “Our troops will join their efforts with those of other forces to ensure that we defeat Al-Shabaab. We must do this to make our country safe for all.”
More than 100 soldiers who belong to an elite force in Somalia known as Gorgor Forces returned to the country on Friday after completing their training in Turkey.
Hassan Ali Mohamed, the Defense Minister in the Federal Government of Somalia, was at the Aden Ade International Airport to welcome them upon their arrival from Turkey.
SNA works closely with AMISOM troops to fight Al-Shabaab militants who have made the country insecure and unsafe.
