Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture of Somalia’s Galmudug State conducted a field visit to farms in the Balanbale district of the Galgadud region this week. The visit aimed to assess the pressing challenges faced by local farmers and identify sustainable solutions to boost agricultural productivity.
During the visit, the delegation engaged with farmers to better understand their needs, particularly in relation to irrigation infrastructure, access to quality seeds, and the availability of fertilizers.
Farmers shared concerns about unreliable water sources, outdated farming tools, and limited access to agricultural inputs that continue to hamper yields and livelihoods.
The officials emphasized the state government’s commitment to supporting rural communities by improving irrigation systems, distributing improved seed varieties, and facilitating the delivery of subsidized fertilizers.
“We are here to listen and work with our farmers,” a ministry representative stated. “By identifying these challenges firsthand, we aim to implement effective policies and interventions to strengthen food security and resilience across the region.”
The visit underscores Galmudug’s broader efforts to promote agricultural development amid recurrent climate shocks and economic hardship.
