Galmudug and Puntland Committed to Solving Elections Impasse

Galmudug and Puntland, two of the Federal Member States (FMS) in Somalia, remain committed to solving the elections impasse that has rocked the country.

On December 31, President Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoorqoor of Galmudug confirmed this while addressing participants at the Heritage Institute for Policy Studies (HIPS) annual conference.

During his address, Qoorqoor said the leadership of the two semiautonomous states would not rest on their laurels until the country overcomes the current impasse.

He promised to cooperate with President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland to bridge the widening rift between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and opposition candidates.

The ongoing rift has forced the East African nation to delay the local and parliamentary elections that were planned for December 2020.
