Businesses and leaders in Galmudug have pledged a sum of $90 million towards the construction of Hobyo Port.
The announcement comes hot in the heels of reports that Qatari government might have backed out of the project.
Last year, the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) announced an agreement with Qatar to construct an ultra-modern port at Hobyo.
However, nothing has come out of those initial reports since then.
Other observers believe that Qatari only stepped into the port’s construction to kick the government of United Arab Emirates (UAE) out of that particular tender.
