Dhuusamareb, Somalia – A week-long media ethics training on responsible election coverage concluded today in Dhuusamareb, with senior officials from Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and the Galmudug State Ministry of Information presiding over the closing ceremony.
The program brought together 20 journalists from across Galmudug State, equipping them with skills to report on electoral processes accurately, impartially, and in line with ethical standards.
Participants engaged in practical sessions on fact-checking, balanced reporting, combating misinformation, and safeguarding journalists’ safety during politically sensitive periods.
Officials emphasized the critical role of the media in fostering democratic participation and public trust, noting that fair and credible reporting during elections helps reduce tensions and misinformation.
“This training is a step towards building a more informed and peaceful electoral environment,” said a Galmudug Ministry of Information representative, urging participants to apply the knowledge gained in their daily work.
The initiative reflects broader national efforts to strengthen the capacity of Somali media ahead of upcoming elections, ensuring that journalists are well-prepared to serve the public interest while upholding professional integrity.
