Dhusamareb, Somalia – The Minister of Interior of Galmudug State has underscored the foundational importance of establishing a reliable Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system, describing it as a cornerstone for effective governance, equitable resource distribution, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
In a public statement issued today, the minister emphasized that accurately recording vital events such as births, deaths, marriages, and divorces enables the government to develop evidence-based policies, plan public services more efficiently, and ensure that every citizen is recognized and included in national development efforts.
“A strong civil registration system is not merely a bureaucratic necessity; it is a human rights imperative,” the minister stated. “It allows us to uphold the dignity of our people, ensure access to essential services, and build a transparent and accountable government,” he added.
The statement also pointed to the role of civil registration in improving public health data, enhancing security and justice systems, and supporting disaster response and social protection programs. The minister called on local and international partners to support Galmudug’s efforts in strengthening its CRVS infrastructure.
Efforts are already underway in Galmudug to digitize records and build capacity within local administrative units, marking a significant step toward improved governance and citizen empowerment.
