Galmudug, Somalia – The Regional Parliament of Somalia’s Galmudug State has approved the 2026 fiscal budget amounting to $49,715,000, marking a 14 percent increase from the previous year. The budget, presented by the Ministry of Finance, was passed after extensive deliberations on revenue mobilization, expenditure priorities, and service delivery.
Lawmakers commended the government’s efforts to enhance fiscal discipline and strengthen domestic revenue systems. The 2026 budget underscores Galmudug’s commitment to improving governance, security, and social development across the state’s districts.
According to officials, the increased allocation will fund critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and local administration. It also reflects growing confidence in the state’s economic management and expanding revenue base, partly supported by customs collections and public financial reforms.
Galmudug’s Minister of Finance hailed the approval as a milestone for transparency and accountability, noting that the administration aims to ensure equitable resource distribution and effective monitoring of budget implementation.
The budget’s passage comes as Somalia’s federal member states intensify efforts to align their financial frameworks with the Federal Government’s national fiscal policy, in line with ongoing reforms under the IMF-supported program.
With the new fiscal plan in place, Galmudug authorities are expected to focus on economic stability and service delivery in 2026, amid persistent challenges of insecurity, climate shocks, and limited institutional capacity.
