Galmudug’s Outgoing President Finally Hands Over Power to the New President

Somalia’s Galmudug State finally ushered in new leadership when the outgoing president, Ahmed Duale Gelle, alias Haaf, handed over leadership to the newly elected president, Ahmed Abdi Kariye, alias Qoor Qoor.

The handing over ceremony took place several months after the state held its much-anticipated elections. Several top state officials attended the ceremony. President Qoor Qoor is now expected to take charge of the semi-autonomous state.

While handing over the instruments of power, Gelle asked all stakeholders to engage in “mutual cooperation” to ensure that the state needs the peace required to pursue its agenda for the sake of the people of Galmudug.

Further, Haaf said, “I am ready to work with the new administration. Where possible, I will offer the new leadership my advice too.” He also asserted that the spirit of brotherhood must supersede all personal interests.
